There are some people who are food connoisseurs and some who are wine connoisseurs, it is unusual to find someone who is both and therefore, finding the right wine for your beautifully made meal can often be tricky. If you have spent the time preparing and cooking a meal you need to match it with an equally great tasting wine, the question is though; which one is going to be the perfect match for your meal.

It all depends on what you are having as beef, chicken or a vegetarian dish are all going to require a different type of wine. Some people choose their wine depending on the type they like but if you like the taste of both red, white and rose then you are in a good position to enhance the taste of your meal.

You can also be a bit bold in your choice of wines as you have new and old world wines; old world wines come from the traditional vineyards of Western Europe such as France, Spain and Italy. New World wines are from the vineyards in South Africa, New Zealand, Australia, South America and the USA, the main difference between how the two are identified is that whilst Old World wines are identified by location, New World wines are identified by the type of grape used.

You may be open to trying new tastes so if you are having beef then you should look to choose a Shiraz or a Grenache, there are also new world wines that mix the two grapes so a Shiraz Grenache may be the perfect wine for a beef dinner. With something like chicken however, you need a lighter wine so white is often the preferred option. Traditionally a Chenin Blanc or Chardonnay would have been a great choice and whilst this is still the case, you can now get a mixture of the two if you choose a Chenin Blanc Chardonnay. Alternatively a tasty Riesling or Pinot Gregio would complement your meal well.

There is a great range of rose wines that are also available and go well with a range of foods including fish. Of course, there are many different types of wines available and the one you choose depends on an array of factors, not least price, taste and look. Some wines have got a great reputation but it is important to think about what you are going to have you wine with to ensure the combination of tastes is going to tingle your taste buds.
